JOB TITLE : QHSE Specialist

DEPARTMENT : QHSE

REPORTS TO : QHSE DIRECTOR

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with the execution of our Permit to Work program by providing oversight of contract / sub contract tasks, workplace inspections (working at heights, LO / TO, confined space, excavation, Hot Work and Lifting and Hoisting. In addition, assists with the Emergency Response efforts, Safety Observation Program and other Safety related duties such as but not limited to monthly fire extinguisher and safety shower / eye wash inspections.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist on all facets of Odfjell Terminals Permit To Work Program including :

Permit Issuance and closure; Training of new permit writers; Audits of Permits / JSAs and Audits of safety practices (includes procedure development / revisions)

  • Assists with all facets of Odfjell Terminals Emergency Response program including : maintains bunker gear, oversees and maintains Emergency Response equipment & inspections, assist with the coordination of the ERT team such as required drills and training.
  • Conducts and documents monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and safety showers / eye wash stations.
  • Conducts Terminal walkthroughs documenting observed housekeeping issues and hazardous conditions.
  • Follow company policies and comply with company regulations. Cooperate and support colleagues.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • In case of absence, the employee’s supervisor will assume and / or assign responsibility for this position’s duties.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned within their level of qualification and training.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s / Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical or Science Field or equivalent experience in chemical or terminal plant operations and safety required (Preferred degree plans are Environmental Health / Safety Technology, Process Technology, or Chemistry; two-four years’ experience)
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate job-required equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Occasionally : sitting; ability to climb ladder to top of tanks; bending over; crawling; climbing; reaching overhead; crouching; kneeling; balancing; pushing or pulling; grasping; repetitive use of hands / arms; repetitive use of legs; lifting / carrying up to 25 lbs.; keyboarding / typing; thinking analytically; producing unique or creative solution to problems; using math / calculations

    Frequently : standing; walking (general); walking in or out of terminal, through turnstile, be able to evacuate in emergency; eye / hand coordination; touching; seeing; understanding, assimilating, and drawing conclusions from information and data; receiving and transmitting information accurately using oral communications; receiving and transmitting information accurately using written communications; remembering details; making decisions; adjusting to changes; examining / observing details

    Continuously : talking; hearing; smelling; maintaining stamina during workday; concentrating on tasks; maintaining attention span during workday; using English language correctly

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Occasionally : on call schedule (weekends or after hours); close proximity / potential exposure to hazardous chemicals; hot / cold temperatures; work outside; electrical hazards; sharp objects / tools; exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, mud; excessive noise exposure; hot temp devices (burners, flame torches, etc.); vibration; working in difficult interpersonal situations

    Frequently : wear PPE; wear uniform; maintaining composure and professionalism under emotional stress; performing multiple tasks at the same time; travel locally between two Houston office locations during work day / shift; travel domestically

    Continuously : maintaining TWIC card; maintaining high level of energy and productivity through the work day / shift
