As a Mechanical Automation Project Engineer, you will lead the design, integration, and delivery of advanced industrial automation and robotics systems. This role involves hands-on mechanical design, project leadership, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to develop high-performance, automated manufacturing solutions. You will serve as the bridge between concept and commissioning, working with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Qualifications and Skills :
- BS / MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics focus preferred)
- 6+ years in Mechanical Design & Sales support roles within industrial automation, including at least 3 years designing custom machinery at a Robotic Systems Integrator
- Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD and SolidWorks PDM
- Experience in sizing actuators, servos, sensors, and pneumatics
- Knowledge of machining and fabrication processes
- Experience applying GD&T principles
- Effective communication with vendors / suppliers for machined parts
- Proficiency in prototyping, 3D printing, testing, and debugging
- Experience with FAT, equipment installation, and SAT at customer sites
- Robotic automation cell design skills, including reach / cycle analysis, safety, and risk assessment
- Design experience in robotic applications such as assembly, material handling, and palletizing

Sales & Concept Support : Collaborate with sales teams to review customer specifications, prepare technical presentations, recommend solutions, and assist in quoting and proposal development.Mechanical Design & Development : Design complex machinery and robotic systems in SolidWorks, lead design reviews, and produce detailed drawings for manufacturing.Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities for performance enhancement, cost reduction, and system reliability.Systems Integration : Work with controls, electrical, and software engineers to integrate robotic systems into production lines.Project Management : Manage projects from concept through FAT / SAT and installation, ensuring scope, budget, and timelines are met.Vendor & Supply Chain Coordination : Source components, manage supplier relationships, and oversee fabrication and assembly.Compliance & Safety : Ensure designs meet safety standards and conduct risk assessments.Build, Testing & Debugging : Oversee equipment assembly, testing, and debugging to resolve issues across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.FAT / SAT & Installation : Develop protocols, lead site validation efforts, and coordinate installation activities.Documentation : Prepare technical documentation, test plans, and operating manuals.This is a 100% in-office position in Morrisville, NC. Remote or hybrid options are not available.
