We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team, with a specialized focus on head and neck cancer care. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC)-Iowa's only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a distinction it has held since 2000. Together, we are dedicated to providing exceptional, multidisciplinary support to patients throughout the region.

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is dedicated to the sustainable delivery of excellent medical care for those with diseases and disorders of the head and neck through the translation of new discoveries, prospective analysis of outcomes, and development of innovative training strategies.

our clinical mission

To provide exemplary clinical practice in the areas of medical and surgical care in which our staff engage, under the broad headings of general otolaryngology, communicative disorders, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck oncology, laryngology, otology / neurotology, pediatric otolaryngology and rhinology.

Duties to include :

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Assist with pre-operative education for Otolaryngology surgical patient populations from Pediatrics to Adult
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Assist in clinic with MA & MD staff weekly clinics
  • Assist with Minor Procedures within clinic, Minor Room and Surgicenter Procedures.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Assist with Telephone Triage 1-2 times per week
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents / reports interventions and patient / family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer / discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and / or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.

Percent of Time : 100%

Schedule : Monday- Friday 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm with rotating "Late" week as needed.

Salary : $61,183 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. Salary will be based on years of experience and percent effort.

Location : University Campus

Qualifications

Education :

  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Required Qualifications :

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients / families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Certified in Specialty area within Ambulatory
