Job Overview

The Scientific Support Engineer Team Lead is a senior hands-on technologist who runs day-to-day scientific IT support at NIH Building 35, guiding a team of engineers while acting as the go-to expert for complex troubleshooting. They understand research workflows and lab tools, translate them into robust computing solutions, and proactively analyze recurring issues to drive permanent fixes. The role owns documentation and best practices, and is an enterprise SME across Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as ITB's system management tools. They also navigate virtualization platforms, networking hardware / software, and a range of peripherals, ensuring reliable, high-performance environments for NIMH researchers.

This role will be a full-time position with work performed both on-site at the NIH Main Campus, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892  and remotely, with core hours Monday-Friday : 6 : 30 AM - 6 : 00 PM EST. Position is contingent upon award and upon client approval.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of relevant experience, ideally with the NIH or another scientific organization
  • BS / MS / PhD in Engineering, Applied Science, or another relevant field
  • Proven experience leading a team of support engineers
  • The ability to and experience with managing documentation of scientific support processes, and familiarity with scientific research methods and tools
  • Subject matter expertise with Windows, macOS, and Linux enterprise computing, ITB's system management tools, and advanced technical support and troubleshooting
  • Expertise with the ServiceNow platform and associated tools and processes
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms, networking hardware and software, and IT peripherals

Salary Range

  • $80,000 to $90,000
