Senior Trusts & Estates Associate - New York, NY

About the Role

A nationally recognized law firm with a top-tier Trusts & Estates practice in New York City is seeking a Senior Associate (6+ years of experience) to join its Private Client group. This is an exceptional opportunity to take on significant responsibility in a practice known for its sophisticated estate planning and probate work for high-net-worth individuals, families, fiduciaries, and private entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex estate planning matters, including drafting and supervising sophisticated wills, trusts, GRATs, FLPs, charitable vehicles, and other wealth-transfer instruments.
  • Advise clients on advanced tax planning strategies, including estate, gift, GST, and income tax issues.
  • Manage high-stakes probate and trust administration matters, including Surrogate's Court proceedings, contested estates, and fiduciary disputes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fiduciaries, and beneficiaries, providing strategic advice and clear guidance on complex matters.
  • Oversee and mentor junior associates and paralegals, delegating effectively and reviewing their work product.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across tax, corporate, and litigation practices on multi-disciplinary client needs.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, client presentations, and thought leadership in the trusts & estates space.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • At least 6 years of experience in trusts & estates, estate planning, probate, and related fiduciary work at a peer firm.
  • Demonstrated experience handling both planning and administration, with exposure to contested matters a strong plus.
  • Admission to the New York Bar (or ability to waive in).
  • Exceptional drafting, analytical, and client-management skills.
  • A proactive, collegial approach with the ability to lead client matters independently.
