Golf Course Manager
Directs the operation, maintenance and customer service activities of the municipal golf courses : buildings, grounds, clubhouses and concessions. Works under the administrative and policy direction of the Service Director or designee.
Promotes exceptional golf experiences and provides excellent services and programming to patrons. Maintains a highly visible presence with the public and staff through active supervision and management of golf course activities. Ensures excellent customer service is provided to all patrons. Assists in developing maintenance schedules and overseeing the preparation and maintenance of golf course greens and fairways. Directs renovation programs and landscaping, maintenance of golf course buildings and clubhouses and maintenance of all equipment during winter months. Prepares division budget. During playing season, supervises the operation of the pro shops, concessions operations and cart services. Oversees and directs the buying and selling of golf merchandise in the pro shops. Schedules the work of year-round personnel and of seasonal personnel. Prepares requests for equipment, tools, materials and personnel. Supervises accounting for and disposition of monies in accordance with City policies. Schedules all golf activities, arranging for groups, leagues, and tournaments in such a way as to accommodate the greatest number of players. Schedules the use of facilities for outings, parties and meetings and supervises the catering involved for such activities. Prepares and maintains activity and financial reports. Utilizes standard and customized business software for purchasing, budgeting, hiring, onboarding, and performance management activities. Drives to attends meetings and conferences on golf course operations. Operates golf course vehicles and equipment as needed. Maintains constant contact with the general public, news media, private golf facilities and community sports clubs. Performs related work as required.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree and a minimum of five years of paid experience in golf course operation and maintenance with a minimum of one year of paid experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity. College course work may be substituted by golf course supervisory level paid experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid State of Ohio Driver's License. Considerable knowledge of golf course business management and playing operations. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in planting and maintaining golf course greens, traps, fairways, tees and other areas of the course proper. Knowledge of the methods, supplies and practices used in concessions operations. Knowledge of building and equipment maintenance. Knowledge of agronomy and landscaping. Skill in the use of technology including standard and customized software. Skill in organization, maintaining records and writing various financial and statistical reports. Skill in motivating, developing and directing staff in order to create a positive atmosphere. Ability to drive oneself and initiate action to complete projects and tasks. Ability to make financial plans for facilities and concessions operations and maintenance. Ability to plan, direct, coordinate and supervise a variety of work activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and constructive working relationships with others. Ability to effectively communicate with others both verbally and in writing. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
