POSITION : MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST
DEPARTMENT : LAB
FLSA STATUS : NON-EXEMPT
SCHEDULE : Part Time, Every Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 : 00PM - 10 : 00PM.

JOB SUMMARY :
Assist with diagnostic testing to support patient care and treatment by preparing specimens, performing routine laboratory procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring accurate data entry under the direction of the Laboratory Director.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS :
- Responsible to the Laboratory Director

- Regular Contact with all hospital departments and the public

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Collect, label, and prepare patient specimens (e.g. blood, urine, tissue) for testingConduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, tissue, etc. to determine presence of normal or abnormal componentsFollow the laboratory procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and reportingAnalyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or immediately notify the Laboratory Director.Establish or monitor quality assurance programs or activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory resultsRecord and report test results clearly and accurately in the hospital’s electronic health record systemMaintain records that demonstrate the proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.Adhere to the laboratory quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, including troubleshooting issues as neededFollow established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide diagnostic supportMaintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, HIPAA, etc.)Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with hospital and regulatory standardsMaintain the integrity and confidentiality of patient information through all laboratory processesAll other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS :
Education : Must possess an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field. Must be licensed in the State of Louisiana.
Work Experience : Prior experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting is preferred.

Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of timeFrequent movement throughout the laboratory and various hospital departments and patient care areasRequires fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination for tasks such as handling specimen, operating instructions, performing phlebotomies, etc.Frequently position self to maintain equipment, obtain supplies, access materials or instruments, etc.Constantly operates a computer, office and Lab machineryAbility to effectively communicate information accurately so others will understandAbility to hear and respond to alarms, instruments alerts, and verbal communication in a noisy laboratory environmentAbility to observe details at close range including the ability to distinguish color changes, read instrument displays, and observe specimens under microscopesAbility to move materials, equipment, etc. weighing up to 25 poundsOSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY : A Have exposure to blood borne pathogens.
