This role exists to support and implement the Mission of Magnificat High School.

Position Summary : The Athletic Head Coach is responsible for developing, managing and promoting strategies to support the holistic well-being of Magnificat High School student athletes competing in their assigned sport. The Head Coach provides oversight, direction and coaching to the sports program.

Major Responsibilities :
o Serves as a professional ambassador for both their sprot and Magnificat High School, consistently demonstrating character aligned with the values of the school and the Athletic Department.
o Leads by example, showing respect through personal appearance, demeanor, behavior, language and genuine engagement.
o Coaches with the goal of helping each student-athlete realize and develop their fullest potential.
o Maintains clear, timely and respectful communication with administrators, students, parents, school staff, athletic trainers, game officials and college coaches.
o Represents Magnificat High School by wearing official school attire at all competitions, including games, meets and matches.
o Serves as the school’s official representative at all OHSAA rules interpretation sessions and tournament draw meetings.
o Identifies and selects student athletes for team participation; conducts tryouts across all levels, collaborating with the Director of Athletics to finalize team selections.
§ Submits a complete and current eligibility roster, including all necessary player information to the Athletic Department.
o Develops a comprehensive program that includes practice schedules, training guidelines and system of play that are unique to the sport.
o Informs student athletes and their families about required athletic fees, encourages timely payments and enforces polices related to non-payment.
o Oversees and coordinates activities involving students and staff during both the active season and in the off-season, ensuring continuous development and engagement.
o Handles long term planning as well as day to day management of the sports program
o Attends all varsity practices, games and meetings and oversees junior varsity (JV) and freshmen activities as needed.
o Coordinates assistant coaches, junior varsity and freshmen programs as extensions of the varsity program.
o Develops a well organized practice plan which utilizes staff to their maximum potential.
o Permits only students enrolled in Magnificat High School to condition or practice with school sponsored teams.
o Holds weekly or bi-weekly meetings with coaching staff to discuss potential problems or concerns with the program.
o Meets with the assistant coach and individual team members throughout the season to discuss their progress.
o Meets with team members and families to discuss concerns as needed; responds appropriately and within one working day to all communications from students, families, parents, administration and colleagues.
o Reports injuries to proper school officials; notifies the Director of Athletics of injuries needing medical attention; assures the injured athlete receives competent medical care.
o Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature, secures the signed approval of the student’s doctor or athletic trainer before permitting the athlete to return to any athletic activities.
o Facilitates off season workouts and conditioning in accordance with OHSAA guidelines.
o Is responsible for the conduct and sportsmanship of student athletes during practices, at competitions, travel to and from contests and in public when representing Magnificat High School.
o Rides with the team to and from all athletic functions, unless other arrangements have been made in advance with the Director of Athletics.
o Promptly submit detailed game reports to the Athletic Department following each competition.
o Manage and regularly update team social media platforms to share highlights, announcements and ensuring that all content posted aligns with school policies and promotes a positive self image.
o Identify and nominate outstanding athletes for local, regional and state level honors and awards.
o Engage with media outlets in a professional and respectful manner, representing the team and school positively in all communications.
o Assumes responsibility for the care of equipment, supplies and materials used for the team.
o Collects and returns all equipment and uniforms withing one week of the conclusion of the season.
o Prepares and submits an equipment and uniform inventory
§ Turns in to the Director of Athletics any equipment that is deemed unsafe or has reached its useful life.
o Makes recommendations to the Director of Athletics for the purchase of new equipment, supplies and materials.
o Keeps accurate records of all interscholastic contests, information and statistics and submits them to the Director of Athletics for filing and reference purposes.
o Recommends opponents for independent games and contests.
o Assists the Director of Athletics and guidance counselors in ensuring that college recruiting is done withing the guidelines of NCAA and NAIA standards.
