Job Summary
The Research Contracts Administrator 2, Level 2 provides high-quality, customer service management within the Office of Sponsored Programs. This position has leadership responsibilities for the negotiation of research agreements and clinical trial agreements and works closely with the Office of the General Counsel, the Office for Clinical Research, UTRF, and other UT Health Science Center and UT Systems offices as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Manages incoming and outgoing contractual agreements assigned to ensure proper and timely review and issuance and / or acceptance, as appropriate.
- Drafts, reviews, negotiates, and processes clinical trial agreements, research service agreements, sub-awards, sub-contracts, and the amendments associated with them.
- Ensures sub-agreements have the appropriate flow-through terms based on whether the prime award is a federal contract or grant, a foundation award, or an industry-sponsored contract.
- Negotiates and / or drafts agreements, including CTAs, RSAs, CDAs, CTAs, MTAs, and amendments and other documents in collaboration with faculty, departmental staff, UTRF, legal advisors, and other administrators as necessary on behalf of UTHSC.
- Reviews, processes, and implements corrective action in the administrative management of the negotiation process, when necessary, in order to represent the interests of UTHSC.
- Maintains ongoing relationships with faculty, departmental staff, industry sponsors, academic institutions, vendors, and other entities involved in agreements under review.
- Provides campus, departmental, and one-on-one training related to research and clinical research agreements, including UTHSC policies and procedures, and sub-agreement contracting and monitoring issues.
- Assists the Assistant Director of Research Agreements in the development of policies and procedures for process improvements related to contract and clinical research agreements.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Science, Business, Law, or related field (Master's Degree preferred). Transcript required.
Experience
Four (4) years of experience performing contract negotiation or a combination of education and experience to equal eight (8) years. Experience in academic contracting, paralegal, legal or contract experience, and knowledge of university policies and procedures preferred; law degree or other law or business–related degree and experience in a research environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.Ability to read and understand legal documents and compare them with UT policy, applicable law, and regulations.Excellent negotiation skills and a clear understanding of contracts.Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to organize effectively, and manage and prioritize tasks both individually and in coordination with others.Work Schedule
This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require overnight travel.
