Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026 , and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

NY Distributed Generation (Albany, NY)
The Distributed Generation (DG) Liaison team is tasked with upholding our company's priorities and enhancing its effectiveness in achieving state and company clean energy goals in New York. This team continually seeks to improve end-to-end processes, promote cultural change across all functions, strengthen relationships with customers and developers, and enhance the company's reputation with New York State regulators. As a Gridtern, you will assist engineers and project managers in evaluating renewable energy policies and technologies. Additionally, you will prepare newsletter content that highlights key projects and initiatives while helping to update our distributed generation interconnection standards.
Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) (Albany, NY)
Our Distribution Planning and Asset Management Department is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the distribution network. This team conducts load forecasting, infrastructure assessments, and risk management to optimize asset performance and support long-term planning initiatives. They play a critical role in aligning distribution strategies with National Grid's mission by enhancing system reliability, improving customer service, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. DPAM contributes to the sustainable growth of the distribution system and supports the overall objectives of our company.
As a Gridtern, you will work on various projects over the summer, contributing to the annual area studies that offer a thorough review of the distribution system within a specific geographic area of the service territory. You will collaborate with engineers to conduct new customer load studies, perform Distributed Generation interconnection analyses, and carry out reliability reviews, among other tasks. Additionally, you will participate in site visits, gaining practical experience and insight into the engineering processes at National Grid, from office work to field operations.
Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) (Albany, NY)
Our Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) team is at the forefront of addressing the challenges associated with both short-term and long-term planning for electric distribution and sub-transmission systems. DPAM employs a comprehensive approach that involves a meticulous assessment of existing assets while identifying opportunities for enhancement and strategically accommodating new customer loads and requests. DPAM also acts as a proactive measure to prevent outages, ensuring uninterrupted service to our valued customers. This team not only anticipates the needs of our system but also actively contributes to fostering a clean energy future by embracing innovative energy technologies and making strategic investments in renewable fuel resources, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage assets.
As a Gridtern, you will collect data and track performance metrics related to distributed generation interconnection applications. You will monitor milestone compliance and the delivery of application milestones, attend MSA contractor meetings with stakeholders to identify pain points, and suggest process improvements. Additionally, you will support the collection of critical sub-transmission system data for summer preparations and base case delivery. By participating in weekly divisional calls, you will assist with action items and contribute to implementing key process strategy improvements. Finally, you will help visualize data and present key milestones in the generator interconnection and internal network development processes.
NY Property Right of Way (Albany, NY)
Our Right of Way team is an innovative group that manages property rights across our Gas and Electric businesses. This team acquires over 2,500 easements annually, maintains more than 500,000 property rights, and brings expertise in real estate, law, negotiation, acquisition, title, and condemnation support services.
As a Gridtern, you will support the team in enhancing our geospatial property database, providing you with practical experience at the intersection of real estate, surveying, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You will be responsible for digitizing and refining property boundaries by drawing and editing shapes within the geospatial property database. Additionally, you will conduct research by reviewing, searching, and interpreting legal property documents. Lastly, you will also assist with quality control checks to verify the accuracy and completeness of geospatial data, equipping you with valuable insights and skills in the field.
Gas Pipeline Safety Quality & Compliance Assurance (Albany, NY)
Our Gas Pipeline Safety Quality & Compliance Assurance team is responsible for managing several relationships with state pipeline safety regulators while reviewing end-to-end programs related to data quality and field execution of work. This team ensures safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of natural gas to our customers by identifying compliant versus non-compliant findings across the business.
As a Gridtern, you will work closely with analysts and inspectors, learning the basics of the gas business while reviewing our current ways of working. In this role, you will conduct daily reviews of records and inspection findings and contribute to several compliance improvement initiatives. This opportunity will give you valuable exposure to safety, compliance, and operational excellence within the energy industry.
Gas Field Operations UNY East (Glenmont, NY)
Our Gas Field Operations team in Upstate New York is dedicated to the safe and efficient delivery of natural gas to all National Grid customers in the Eastern region of UNY. This team aids customers by installing and maintaining safe and cost-effective natural gas services. With the support of skilled Gas Field Operations mechanics, they will excavate and repair any leaking or damaged gas services. Furthermore, this team is committed to replacing older, leak-prone infrastructure with newer, more reliable piping each year, which is a significant compliance priority for the organization.
As a Gridtern, your responsibilities will include regularly obtaining Maximo reports on sick leave and callouts from clerks while updating the overall sick time tracker across various Teams. You will also oversee our CDL tracker, which entails monitoring the expiration dates of Commercial Driver Licenses (CDLs) and medical cards for crews at all locations. In this position, you will plan events such as Mega Hubs and Staff Meetings, which involves coordinating with meeting facilitators and preparing PowerPoint presentations and agendas as needed. Additionally, you will assist the team by ordering tools and equipment from various catalogs, managing changes in hierarchy, completing necessary forms, and implementing new forms, sheets, or documents to effectively organize data.

Salary Range
$21.00-$29.00 an hour
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.
Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
