Position Summary

We are seeking a mid- to senior-level Auto and Casualty Claims Adjuster to join our in-office team in El Paso, TX. This full-time position is responsible for investigating, measuring, applying coverage, adjusting, and resolving all facets of automobile, homeowner, dwelling, condominium, renters, and commercial casualty insurance claims across Stillwater’s 50-state market.

While this role is principally in-office, occasional travel may be necessary for field investigations, settlement conferences, and mediations. The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of experience in casualty claims handling, strong analytical skills, and the ability to resolve complex liability matters effectively and professionally.

Key Responsibilities

Investigate and determine coverage across a variety of casualty claims under residential and commercial policy forms.

Analyze claim facts and policy language to assess coverage accurately.

Address and resolve open coverage questions promptly while preserving the company’s legal rights.

Write original correspondence, including reservation of rights letters, disclaimers, and settlement communications.

Communicate professionally with all involved parties; return all calls within one hour.

Use strategic judgment to assign and manage outside resources when appropriate (e.g., independent adjusters, photo apps, legal vendors).

Set and adjust reserves appropriately based on claim facts, documentation, and anticipated development.

Conduct detailed scene investigations, gather necessary documents and expert input, and supervise external vendors as needed.

Document all coverage, liability, and damage analysis clearly and thoroughly in the claim file.

Identify fraud indicators and refer to SIU when appropriate; collaborate closely with SIU investigators.

AlIdentify and pursue subrogation and salvage opportunities.

Navigate complex coverage, AOBs, CRNs, NOIs, and other legal and compliance-related issues.

Handle bodily injury evaluations, projecting settlement and verdict ranges.

Develop and implement litigation action plans that align with company strategy and cost-efficiency goals.

Negotiate settlements directly with claimants, attorneys, and other parties, prioritizing resolution over litigation where appropriate.

Prepare timely and accurate claim narrative reports for internal management and reinsurers.

Ensure regulatory and company standards are consistently met in claim handling and documentation.

Participate in field inspections, on-site meetings, and special projects as required.

Support after-hours claim support rotation as needed.

Maintain required adjuster licenses and complete continuing education in accordance with state requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (BA / BS / BBA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5+ years of casualty claims adjusting experience , including experience with bodily injury, legal liability, and litigation strategy.

Deep understanding of property, automobile, and casualty policies, insurance principles, and coverage interpretation.

Proficient in scene investigation, damage analysis, and liability evaluation.

Strong legal knowledge of Unfair / Fair Claim Practice Acts and Insurance Codes.

Skilled in preparing coverage letters, damage evaluations, and litigation plans.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.

Strong time management and organizational skills.

Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and general office applications.

Able to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally.

Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) are a plus.
