Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) are an integral part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare delivery system and offer primary care services, such as lab work, administrative support, and behavioral healthcare, as well as a variety of specialty care services provided both in clinic and remotely, utilizing the latest telemedicine technology.
CBOCs are staffed by a team of medical professionals, including Physicians, NPs, PAs, RNs, LPNs, telehealth technicians, pharmacists, social workers, medical assistants, and administrators, who work together to provide complete medical care to veterans and assist them in navigating the VA and understanding all the benefits they may have earned through their service. Each CBOC implements the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model of care, which enhances the patient experience and ensures continuity of healthcare services delivered to veterans.
This Medical Director role will be to provide a full range of primary health care services to include, but not limited to, diagnosing, and treating acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team. May focus on health promotion and disease prevention. May order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x rays. May prescribe medication. This physician collaborates with other providers in planning, evaluating, coordinating, and revising programs and determines conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of health care services.
In addition to the above, this position requires the provision of administrative supervision and general instruction, planning / assigning work, and schedule, approving leave and completing performance evaluations. There is a wide latitude for independent judgement in fulfilling these responsibilities. The Medical Director supervises mid-level providers and nurse manager and is an integral part of the primary care team.
