Facilities and Maintenance Assistant

Location : Downtown Sioux Falls Family YMCA

Status : Part-time (Minimum 20 hours per week; schedule varies based on operational needs)

Pay : $20 per hour

Reports to : Youth Sports Director (YMCA Maintenance)

Position Summary

The Facilities and Maintenance Assistant supports the daily operations, upkeep, and safety of the Downtown Sioux Falls Family YMCA. This role ensures a clean, safe, and fully functional facility by assisting with repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance, and custodial support. The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and committed to creating a welcoming environment for our members, staff, and community.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily facility walkthroughs to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
• Perform basic repairs in areas such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems.
• Replace light bulbs, filters, and other consumable items as needed.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and regular inspections of equipment and systems.
• Maintain and repair fitness equipment in collaboration with fitness staff and vendors.
• Support custodial duties as needed to ensure cleanliness and functionality of all areas.
• Help track maintenance schedules, work orders, and service records.
• Coordinate and oversee vendors or contractors performing on-site services.
• Assist with room setups, furniture moves, event preparation, and deliveries.
• Respond to facility-related requests promptly and professionally.
• Uphold all safety, security, and YMCA operational standards.
• Document maintenance activities and communicate needs clearly to supervisors.

Work Schedule & Compensation

Initial Review Period

This position includes a 90-day introductory period to evaluate performance, cultural fit, and alignment with YMCA values. Continued employment and compensation adjustments may be determined following this review.
