Position Summary
The Employment Specialist builds relationships with clients, employers, and community partners to support individuals in discovering their strengths, preparing for employment, securing jobs, and thriving in long-term placements. This role involves job development, placement, coaching, and advocacy to ensure that individuals with disabilities can work successfully in fully integrated settings.
What You’ll Do
- Support clients with assessments, career exploration, job preparation, and placement.
- Provide direct services including transportation to interviews, mock interview practice, and on-the-job coaching when needed.
- Develop professional, individualized employment plans, resumes, and career portfolios.
- Build strong relationships with employers, schools, funding sources, and community partners to create sustainable employment opportunities.
- Monitor and document client progress in electronic records, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Provide follow-along supports to help clients maintain long-term success.
- Represent UCP Heartland’s mission with professionalism in the community.
- Participate in team support, summer work programs, and other department initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
Required :GED, High School Diploma and relevant work experience.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (must meet agency requirements for transporting clients).Ability to pass all required background screenings.Comfort with physical requirements including standing / walking / bending for extended periods.Preferred :Bachelor’s degree in special education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field.
Experience in supported employment programs and / or working with individuals with severe physical disabilities.Knowledge of local workforce, funding sources (Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Mental Health, SB40 Boards), and regional labor market.Benefits
