Description :
The clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care.
This care incorporates patient-family centered care principles.
The Clinical Nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to established policies and procedures.
The nurse applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge needs of patient / family / significant other.
The nurse applies the Core Concepts of Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) in practice.
This knowledge is used to personalize care for each patient and their family.
The impact of nursing care and patient / family partnerships on outcomes is acknowledged.
Collaboration with patient / family input is essential in planning the care plan.
Quality care is provided that meets or exceeds value expectations, including core measures, quality metrics, patient experience, and fiscal responsibility.
Assistance is provided to individuals considering their special needs, age-related, and cultural-related needs.
The nurse recognizes the roles of the interdisciplinary team, patient, and family care partners.
These roles are utilized appropriately as resources in planning patient care.
Tasks are delegated appropriately.
Technical procedures are performed competently and equipment is used correctly.
Documentation in the patient record is timely, accurate, and concise.
Teaching strategies are developed for patient / family education.
Education and learning are documented appropriately in the health record.
Leadership in the professional practice setting is demonstrated.
The nurse is responsible for continuing personal education, mentoring peers, and educating patients and families.
Staying current with health initiatives is essential.
Evidence-based practice and research are incorporated into nursing practice.
Nurses maintain knowledge in their area of clinical practice.
Self-appraisals that include professional goals are completed annually and peer reviews are conducted.
Participation in department-based activities, staff meetings, and committees is expected.
Active participation in hand-offs of care, including patients, families, and care partners is necessary.
Understanding and embracing the cultural traditions and lore of the served community is essential.
Physical demands are part of the role and may include lifting, standing, and walking.
