Production Manager

Minerals Technologies Inc. Our Consumer & Specialties segment offers technologically enhanced products to consumer-driven end markets plus specialty additives that become functional components in a variety of consumer and industrial goods. The Household & Personal Care product line provides mineral-to-market products that serve consumer-oriented end markets including Pet Care, Personal Care, Fabric Care, Edible Oil, and Renewable Fuel Purification. Our Specialty Additives product line provides mineral-based technologies serving Paper, Packaging, Sealants & Adhesives, Paint & Coatings, Ceramics, Plastics, Food & Pharmaceutical markets.

Our Engineered Solutions segment offers advanced process technologies and solutions that are designed to improve our customers' manufacturing processes and projects. This segment includes our High-Temperature Technologies and Environmental & Infrastructure product lines. Our High-Temperature Technologies product line offers specially-formulated blends and technologies primarily for Foundry and Steelmaking industries. Our Environmental & Infrastructure product line provides waterproofing, water purification, remediation and other fluid management technologies for critical projects for Remediation, Water Purification, and Infrastructure.

Position : Production Manager

Location : USA | Adams, MA

Compensation : approx. $140k - 150k based on experience

Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for : (1) producing sufficient product at budgeted rates to meet sales demands; (2) insuring the quality of products produced; (3) sustaining good employee communication and morale to insure a motivated and productive labor force, (4) promoting and facilitating the progress of High Performance Work Systems within the department, (5) driving training compliance across the site, holding the site accountable for Safety, Quality, Deliverables, Costs, and People's Performance, and (6) performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Production

  • Maintains necessary control of production flow to ensure that schedules will be maintained.
  • Coordinates with maintenance department personnel to schedule maintenance and repairs of production equipment and facilities.
  • Prepares operating schedules to insure efficient production levels
  • Controls all direct labor and material cost in area.
  • Performs new equipment and facilities evaluation and recommends the disposition of worn or obsolete material / equipment in order to improve upon capacity and cost goals.
  • Helps plan and execute special projects and evaluations
  • Quality Assurance

  • Ensures that products or raw materials (packaging supplies) meet established quality standards, fully utilizing recognized control systems and procedures.
  • Maintains contact with the Quality Assurance Department and Sales for clarification of customer requirements. May visit customer sites
  • Employee Relations / Performance Management / Training & Development

  • Establishes personal contact with workforce to ensure high employee morale and cooperation.
  • Evaluates subordinates' work performance and gives feedback regarding all strengths and weaknesses
  • Establishes employee goals in line with plant / department objectives and enters into Performance Management system
  • Completes employee annual and mid-year performance evaluations in Performance Management system and delivers one-on-one performance reviews with department personnel, while holding employees accountable to the performance expectations.
  • Makes every good faith effort to achieve Department EEO objectives and ensure that personnel practices are fair and consistent with Governmental regulations.
  • Update all employee job descriptions, training requirements, and position checklists as needed to ensure duties / responsibilities are current and accurate and review with employees, so they have a clear understanding of their role.
  • Safety & Health

  • Maintains company safety standards and reports all unsafe conditions to EHS / Engineering for prompt corrective action.
  • Reports all accidents promptly and continually indoctrinates employees with safety principles and practices.
  • Continuous Improvement / Lean

  • Acts as resource champion for department continuous improvement activities (Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, etc.) driving site metrics and holding the owners accountable for achieving targets
  • Continuous improvement activities to ensure equal opportunities are available for all department members to participate and contribute.
  • Promotes the development and advancement of the High-Performance Work System in the department.
  • Principal Working Relationships :

  • Works closely with Shift Supervisors / Shift Leads in the delegation of operating responsibilities.
  • Works with Maintenance Department personnel to ensure proper preventative and corrective maintenance is carried out appropriately.
  • Works with Human Resources in the effective handling of employee relation issues.
  • Works with Safety Coordinator in updating indices, analyzing trends, etc., to improve department safety and ensure MSHA compliance.
  • Meets quality and quantity demands through effective planning and operation of area and maintains desired inventory levels.

    Incumbent must have a college degree and have seven to ten years of production supervision related experience. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, to motivate others and to promote a positive work atmosphere. The incumbent must be a self-starter who can work effectively with a minimum of supervision. Must have the ability to work effectively with all levels of employees within the company. Incumbent must have demonstrated a willingness to challenge conventional ideas, be flexible, innovative and be able to function effectively in a team format. A working knowledge of basic computer systems, including Windows 95, Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, and using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, fax, copier and phone. Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, written letters and / or faxes. On a frequent basis, there may be exposure to plant production areas, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes. Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment. Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral / written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze information / situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify / judge the urgency of a situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary.

    The employee is expected to be self-directed, take initiative and be persistent when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and keep busy without prompting.
