Police Officer - Lateral (In-State and Out-of-State)

The City of Avondale is accepting applications from career-oriented Arizona In-State and Out-of-State Lateral applicants who desire to join the Avondale Police Department.

The successful candidate(s) will share strong ethical standards, be team-oriented, demonstrate maturity and personal responsibility, and display cultural awareness and sensitivity. This position requires dedication to Customer Service and Community Policing Concepts.

Essential Functions

  • Patrol designated areas and respond to calls for service.
  • Investigate crimes and crime scenes, write reports, testify in court, and supervise or train officers as needed.
  • Respond to calls, conduct investigations, gather information, interview witnesses and suspects, and make arrests when necessary.
  • Operate patrol vehicles, walk, observe traffic violations, and provide customer service.
  • Perform crime investigations, locate evidence, gather statements, and conclude investigations.
  • Perform other duties such as testifying, training, serving warrants, and supervisory tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

In-State Laterals :

  • Must be ARIZONA POST CERTIFIED, in good standing. Certification must be attached.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Possess or be able to obtain an Arizona Driver's License.
  • No felony convictions.
  • POPAT waived for active in-state laterals with current POST certification.
  • Out-of-State Laterals :

  • Must have completed a certified police academy and show proof of current certification.
  • Minimum one year of active patrol experience.
  • Must pass Arizona POST Standard certification and proficiency tests, including firearms, tactical driving, and POPAT.
  • A thorough background check, polygraph, psychological, medical, and drug screening will be conducted. Candidates should have strong communication and computer skills.

    Additional Information

    Applicants must pass a physical agility test, including the POPAT or equivalent. The physical test involves obstacle courses, body drag, and running exercises.
