Credit Review Officer
The Credit Review Officer reports to a Credit Review Group Manager or Team Lead. The ideal candidate is a proven credit risk professional with an exceptional delivery track record within commercial lending, retail / consumer credit, non-traditional credit risk or credit data analytics. The CRO independently evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of the credit processes that produce and monitor assets that generate credit risk.
Duties and responsibilities include :
- Possessing a detailed working knowledge of the methodologies and techniques for performing credit risk review engagements and continuous monitoring activities associated with a strong independent credit review function.
- Participating in the execution of Retail Consumer credit review program assignments in accordance with departmental policy and procedures to effectively assess : credit risk inherent in products / services and related activities, adherence to credit policies and procedures, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and exam results to determine if issues exist and improvement recommendation are necessary.
- Reviewing transactions and / or mine / analysis broader portfolio data for the quality of underwriting, client selection, adequacy of portfolio / risk management, and compliance with HNB Credit Policy; document conclusions that are concise, accurate and facilitate aggregation for reporting to the intended audience.
- Compiling and structuring data from multiple sources (internal and external), creating and accurately summarizing results that are easily utilized by the end-user.
- Conducting periodic risk assessment processes and / or on-going data analysis reporting to identify emerging risks and factors that necessitate amendments to the annual plan.
- Attending segment / business credit risk management committee meetings aligned with area of subject matter expertise; act as a risk management resource to the business units; communicate key takeaways to broader Credit Review team.
- Identifying and communicating emerging risk issues to provide feedback and recommendations to enhance credit risk management practices across the enterprise.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with bank management, and the broader credit review team in order to effectively and efficiently execute review responsibilities.
- Providing CR senior management with information regarding the identification, measurement and management of credit risk for assigned business units.
- Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills as well as ability to manage engagements / projects within allocated timeframes.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Basic qualifications include :
Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of related consumer or scored small business lending experience5+ years of related experience in credit review, risk management, underwriting or data / business analysisPreferred qualifications include :
Working knowledge of credit risk management and control frameworksWorking knowledge of MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and credit / statistical analysis toolsProject management skills, ability to deliver high quality results while meeting deadlines, department and personal goalsPreferred degrees : Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or Statistics related fieldCertification, Advanced Degree or demonstrated progress toward (i.e. MBA, CPA, Financial Risk Manager, SAS Certified Base Programmer etc.)Technical accounting (GAAP) or financial statement analysis knowledge3+ years utilizing SAS / SQL languageConflict managementExempt status : Yes = not eligible for overtime pay.
