Job Description :

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES :

  • Teaches psychoeducational classes. Interacts with inmates to instruct and orient to the Acute / Sub-Acute / Chronic-Care Units.
  • Provide verbal de-escalation for inmates in these units. Provide input into individualized treatment plans. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, staff meetings, and informal consultations. Attend Mental Health trainings, and any additional training deemed necessary for the position.
  • Assist with security procedures in Acute / Sub-Acute / Chronic-Care Mental Health Units. Writes Incident Reports and Contact Notes. Develops and implements Behavioral Baselines.
  • Reviews Individualized Treatment Plans to support goals and objectives. Works under supervision and direction of the Mental Health Supervisor.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications : Associate's degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services or related field OR two years of experience working with persons referred through the legal system. Must be at least 18 years of age. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.

Preferred Qualifications : One year of corrections experience and / or experience working in the mental health field.

Other : Requires a valid driver's license to occasionally transport inmates. Transcripts required at time of appointment. Background security checks completed on top candidates. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order : medical exam, and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test. Must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.
