Overview
Provides patient care in an office setting under the supervision of the medical provider. Meets the communication needs of the patient / family and medical provider. Maintains and follows regulatory requirement and policies and procedures. Communicates with medical providers and staff about patient's clinical condition.
Responsibilities
Welcoming patients and visitors; answering and referring inquiries within scope of practice; telephone : answers telephone, processes calls, and documents appropriately within medical records; returns all messages in a timely manner; maintains communication between medical staff, administrative staff, and / or patient / families.
Maintains and updates medical records; appointment scheduling; facilitates medical requests (e.g., refill requests, work / school notes, form completion); scans and uploads patient clinical documents into the medical chart; processes and coordinates all medical provider orders (diagnostic, referral, pharmaceutical and surgical services); reviews daily provider schedule to ensure all supplies and medical records are ready for patient and provider encounters; as directed by medical provider and within scope of practice, provides patient education.
Ensures all equipment in exams and surgical rooms is clean and properly set up; contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the personal workspace and department; monitors clinical supply levels in exam rooms and stock room and requests supplies when needed; maintains all clinical equipment and reports any damage or maintenance needs.
Qualifications
Graduate of a medical assistant program
Previous experience in medical practice is preferred
Basic Life Support Certification
Registered with American Medical Technologist or Certified with American Association of Medical Assistants preferred
