Overview
Manufacturing Engineering Technologist (Engineering Technologist 2) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Prototype Fabrication (PF) Division and Manufacturing (MFG) Group seek a qualified machine shop planner to provide production and manufacturing support for critical operations and to enable on-time delivery of finished components.
What You Will Do
The PF Division has experience in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware. The Manufacturing Group is seeking a machine shop planner to support production and manufacturing activities, including manufacturing accountability, security, shipping, tracking, quality and delivery of products to customers. As a Manufacturing Engineering Technologist, you will :
- Review new products, support integration and process development on the manufacturing shop floor.
- Update production schedules and track costs from customer initiation through delivery.
- Assess new orders for completeness and manufacturability; write detailed manufacturing instructions with stakeholders.
- Estimate lead times based on current workload; track incoming materials; issue travelers to the shop floor; track in-process work.
- Assist with managing classified inventory and other related functions to support on-time delivery.
- Utilize JobBOSS ERP software to support manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with machinists, inspectors, welders, engineers, manufacturing liaisons, management and customers in daily operations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements :
Manufacturing Knowledge And ExperienceAbility to read blueprints in support of customer deliverables.Working knowledge of the sequence of operations for the manufacture of parts and / or assemblies.Experience supporting the manufacture of products that meet technical and quality standards via engineering practices.Knowledge of and experience in project management for technical or operational work, including development of project plans, managing scope, schedule and budget, and identifying and managing risks for projects of limited scope and complexity.Estimating / Scheduling
Provide accurate quotes for machine time, labor, material, and third-party process costs.Coordinate delivery and transfer of finished products on and offsite for a broad customer base.Coordinate and communicate with onsite customers and offsite vendors to fulfill task orders and support retrieval of finished products.Inventory Management / Organizational Skills
Detailed record keeping and organization (inventory, records, production schedules, materials logs).High attention to detail with accuracy and strong organizational skills to monitor and communicate order status.Computing / Business Systems and Software
Advanced proficiency with typical business software, computer hardware and systems, including spreadsheets, procurement systems and inventory databases.Customer Service
Experience in customer service settings; ability to work in a team and independently to meet high-demand schedule deliverables.Dependability and commitment to long-term job duties and program goals.Training / Certifications
Ability to acquire and maintain certifications such as Radiological Worker II, Beryllium Worker, classified matter custodian (CMC), and others as applicable.Education / Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related field and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of LANL applications (JobBOSS, CPIMS, LANMAS, HMPT certification, etc.).Strong working knowledge of managing production schedules for CNC machining operations.Experience managing production schedules in hazardous materials manufacturing.Strong writing and verbal communication skills to present data and reports to peers, seniors, management and customers.Work Location
Onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at management discretion.
Position Commitment
Regular appointment employees must serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible for posted jobs Lab-wide. This position has a 1-year commitment.
