Position Summary
At AREA the Statewide Safety Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a proactive safety culture among our member electric cooperatives across Alabama. This position is responsible for promoting a safety-first mindset, delivering impactful training, conducting safety audits, and supporting compliance with federal and state safety regulations. Key Responsibilities
Safety Culture Development
- Promote a positive safety culture through education, engagement, and leadership.
- Serve as a resource and mentor to cooperative employees on safety best practices.
- Support the development and implementation of safety initiatives and campaigns.
Training & Education
Deliver engaging safety training programs tailored to various roles within the cooperatives.Conduct regular safety meetings, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations.Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure training relevance.Compliance & Auditing
Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.Assist in the development and review of safety policies and procedures.Support incident investigations and root cause analyses and recommend corrective actions.Collaboration & Support
Work closely with cooperative leadership and safety coordinators to align safety goals.Participate in statewide safety committees and initiatives.Provide on-site support during emergencies or major incidents.Qualifications
Required : Minimum 10 years of experience in safety, preferably in the utility or electrical industry.Associate or bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Industrial Technology, or related field experience in electric utility line construction.Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant safety regulations.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Ability to travel frequently across Alabama.Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or similar certification preferred.Working Conditions
Frequent travel to member cooperative sites across Alabama and Florida Panhandle.Fieldwork in various weather conditions and environments.Occasional evening or weekend work for training or emergency response.J-18808-Ljbffr
