Job Overview

Automation Engineer 4 – CDM Smith is hiring experienced engineers to design, implement, and support SCADA automation projects for public, private, and federal clients worldwide. This role focuses on instrumentation, controls, and related system design, testing, and field implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Create basic to highly complex instrumentation, controls, and related system designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs. Prepare preliminary design reports (PDRs) under supervision.
  • Review component level shop drawings, respond to RFIs, perform field acceptance testing (FATs), and conduct field inspections.
  • Design human-machine interface (HMI), programmable logic controller (PLC), and related reports; estimate effort (LOEs).
  • Lead testing and startup teams for instrumentation and controls, document completion, and quality assurance filing.
  • Assist in drafting operations & maintenance manuals and develop user training.
  • Mentor and review junior staff; provide direction and leadership.
  • Assist with proposal development and presentations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or FE exam pass within 18 months of hire in states where EIT is not obtainable.
  • 5 years of related experience (equivalent directly related experience considered in lieu of a college degree).
  • Domestic and / or international travel required (20%).
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Water / Wastewater projects.
  • Experience within an engineering and / or integration firm.
  • Travel

  • Expert knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and related system design.
  • Strong communication and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Expert knowledge of 3D and 4D CAD drafting.
