Role Overview
The Senior Process Engineer plays a critical role in driving technical excellence and operational performance across the facility. This position provides expert engineering support to optimize chemical processes, improve plant efficiency, and ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. The Senior Process Engineer leads both daily troubleshooting and long-term process improvement initiatives focused on process safety, throughput, quality, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.
In addition to being a key technical resource, this role serves as a mentor and leader for the site's Process Engineering team—guiding their development, supporting project execution, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provides technical support and engineering expertise to resolve operational problems
- Develops scopes for improvement projects and can be called upon to lead the project to implementation and closeout
- Assists in the design, procurement, and installation of new equipment
- Reviews data packages and drawings from vendors for errors and improvements
- Manage technical vendor / supplier relationships and performance
- Leads and provides technical support for maintaining and advancing Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and initiatives as required including participation in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews, incident investigations, etc.
- Participates in Management of Change (MOC) process to control and manage proposed process modifications
- Assists in developing site operating procedures and participates in Operator training
- Uses statistical techniques to evaluate and improve process capabilities
- Investigates innovative technologies and equipment modifications to improve safety, environmental compliance, reliability, and operational efficiency
Basic Qualifications (Required)
Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering8+ years of work experience in the chemical manufacturing industry; polymer experience is preferredDemonstrated critical thinking, process troubleshooting, and complex problem-solving skillsEffective writing, listening, and verbal communication skillsetAbility to clearly communicate with leadership, employees, contractors, vendors, and customersAbility to lead and contribute as part of cross functional teamsDesire to learn, accept new challenges, and willingness to grow and advance within the companyAbility to work independently or cooperatively to deliver required resultsExhibit initiative to identify and complete tasks necessary to support site operationsUnderstanding of Federal and State EPA, OSHA, PSM, EHS and DOT regulationsKnowledge of standard chemical industry standards such as API, ASME, RAGAGEP, etc.Knowledge of standard chemical industry permitting processesProficient with the use of Microsoft Office product suiteAbility to, on a non-routine basis, work weekends, holidays and respond to emergency calloutsNice to Haves
12+ years of relevant work experienceEngineering design experienceFamiliarity with engineering tools such as Aspen Engineering, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and similarExperience with Emerson DeltaV process control platform and configurationExperience with greenfield site commissioning / startup activitiesIndustry experience and familiarity in the handling of flammable materialsExperience with predictive and preventative maintenance programsExperience with corporate and plant level project management, project management
