Role Summary
The Yardman supports the day-to-day maintenance and organization of R Constructions equipment yard and shop. Working closely with the Equipment Manager and Mechanic, this role ensures that the yard is clean, safe, and well-organized, and that tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored, staged, and transported as needed. This is a hands-on, physical role ideal for someone who takes pride in keeping things running behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
Yard & Shop Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free yard and shop environment
- Ensure tools and equipment are returned to their designated locations after use
- Manage debris disposal, scrap materials, and general yard waste removal
- Organize material laydown areas and restock supplies as directed
- Maintain fluid levels, spill kits, fire extinguishers, and shop safety signage
Equipment & Tool Handling
Assist with loading and unloading deliveries, tools, and materialsHelp move equipment and trailers around the yard using company vehicles or machineryTag, label, and organize small tools and consumables for projectsConduct routine inspections of stored equipment for cleanliness, damage, or misuseAssist with tool and equipment check-in / check-out and asset protection processesSupport to the Mechanic
Assist with positioning and preparing equipment for service or inspectionHelp transport parts and materials for ongoing repairsSupport basic mechanical tasks under supervision (e.g., changing fluids, greasing, cleaning)Keep mechanic workspace clean, organized, and stocked with shop suppliesLogistics & Jobsite Readiness
Stage equipment, materials, and tools for job mobilizationAssist with loading trailers and verifying tool checklistsEnsure all outgoing loads are properly secured and documentedSupport equipment pickup / drop-off coordination with the fieldQualifications
13 years of experience in yard, shop, warehouse, or construction support roleValid drivers license; clean driving record requiredComfortable operating forklifts, skid steers, and utility vehicles (training available)Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and perform manual tasks dailySafety-focused, reliable, and detail-orientedAble to take direction, work independently, and support multiple team membersPreferred Skills
Experience with small engine or light equipment repairFamiliarity with OSHA yard / shop safety standardsCDL or forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)Mechanical aptitude or interest in progressing to a shop support or technician role
