Overview : Summary :

Under the supervision of a licensed RN, the graduate nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients during a shift and periodizing the delivery of care using time and resources efficiently integrating an evidence and standards based framework model.

Qualifications : Other information :

  • Associates in Nursing or Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Graduate of an academic School of Nursing required;
  • Minimum ADN or BSN Preparation;
  • State permit to practice as a Graduate Nurse required;
  • degree from an accredited academic school of nursing preferred
  • Permit to practice at the specific PHS facility is completed and approved by the NMBON
  • Permits to practice are valid until the NCLEX examination are disseminated but not to exceed the expiration date on the permit
  • Under the direct supervision of a licensed RN who is physically in the same facility and / or on the same unit who can observe, direct, and evaluate the performance of the GN
  • The Graduate Nurse must be scheduled to take the NCLEX exam.
  • Graduate RNs educated in the United States may take the exam a maximum of three times within three years of first being eligible for to sit for the exam.
  • The applicant must wait 45 days to retest after failing the exam and meet all the NCLEX requirements for retaking the exam. (Nurse Practice Act, NM Code R. 16.12.2.10 NMAC)

  • Graduate Nurse, Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, assumes these responsibilities
  • Per unit and practice standards, provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing,

  • Coordinates patient care through collaboration with patient / family and healthcare team
