Title : Specialist II, Safety & Health (EHS)

Reports to : Manager, EHS

Location : Lansing, Michigan

Summary :

Focus on improving SH&E at the facility by using his / her experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong SH&E culture. Evaluates workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations. Functions as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company SH&E standards and programs. Performs jobsite auditing and conducts incident investigation. Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with applicable SH&E regulations and standards.

Responsibilities :

  • Worked in one or more plant-wide safety, health and / or environmental programs
  • ISO 14001 certification process and lead the Environmental Compliance Team to drive continuous improvement in all environmental programs
  • Ensure hazard identification and mitigation for plant operations and administrative offices
  • Conduct daily line walks to ensure SH&E practices are being observed and to note any at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, faulty equipment or non-compliance with any SH&E related policies / regulations
  • Ensure timely communication of safety issues / concerns to department leadership
  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive improvements across the organization
  • Participate in incident investigations and track corrective actions
  • Conduct new equipment reviews, mechanical risk assessments and ergonomic risk assessments
  • Participate in emergency response drills and critiques
  • Conduct new hire orientation, contractor safety and other SH&E related training topics
  • Develop / update site specific programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Communicate with LGESMI SH&E colleagues around the globe
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards :

Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain

  • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering ore related field required, MBA or MS preferred, or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Professional certification (ASP / CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred

    • Experience :

  • 3-6 years of experience in SH&E programs in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated cross funcaitonal work experience
  • Experience with ISO 14001 : 2015 certification

    • Skills :

  • MS Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with OSHA, EPA and state / local regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge in advanced manufacturing technology (automation), chemicals, and electrical

    • safety is a plus

  • Must be comfortable working in a team setting
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating technical data, test results, and reports
  • Positive attitude, self-driven, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing goals
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours occasionally
