Description :
The Powertrain Controls Engineer – Intermediate is responsible for the design and development of production engine controls algorithms and software, with a focus on engine torque security. Specific responsibilities include :
- Creating physics based models of engine airflow, fuel efficiency, and spark efficiency, for the purpose of calculating delivered engine flywheel torque and vehicle force.
- Creating control algorithms to determine, monitor, and arbitrate engine torque and vehicle force requests from internal and external sources (i.e. driver, transmission, ABS, Client).
- Creating controls software interface between engine, transmission, and hybrid motor controllers, to ensure safe and accurate vehicle force delivery.
- Creating eGas compliant software for safety monitoring, including memory corruption detection, program flow exceptions, and microprocessor failures.
- Creating level 2 monitoring software for occupant safety during engine stop / start operation, to prevent unintended vehicle movement.
- Controls / Software validation on HIL (Hardware in the Loop), MIL (Model in the Loop), and SIL (Software in the Loop) simulation systems, as well as in vehicle testing.
- Simulation of vehicle CAN communications network using Vector CANalyzer / CANoe toolset.
- Data capture and analysis using INCA and MDS toolset.
- Initial calibration of torque security control system.
- Establishing ISO26262 vehicle safety standards and ASIL levels, including use of Fault tree analysis and DFMEA
