The Minnesota Senate provides an opportunity for those interested in the legislative process to receive a firsthand look at life in a Senate office. Interns gain a detailed understanding of the Legislature, including its structure, functions, policies and procedures, and allocation of resources. Applications for the 2026 Session will be accepted through November 5, 2025. Due to the nature of the legislature, this internship is entirely in person. Applicants must be 18+ and have a high school diploma or GED.
Senate Intern responsibilities include :
Bill tracking
Researching bills
Attend hearings
Internal and external communications (i.e. constituent responses, newsletters)
Additional tasks specific to your designated office
Senate Intern requirements are :
Intern at least 8 hours per week (in-person only)
Attend Intern Orientation
Attend Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Training
Attend a mid-Session check in with Senate Information
Complete a portfolio containing at least three documents completed during Session
All interns receive a communications and transportation stipend which is $125 per week.
The Internship position will start in January.
