We service 1,500 specialty stores across the country and have a beautiful brand new 25,000 Sq. Foot Warehouse space. Founded in 2000, Habitat Clothes To Live In, Inc. has grown to include three divisions (Escape, Olivia and Habitat Clothes) with 6 lines per year and over 10,000 SKUs.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION :
The Designer is responsible for creating and developing our apparel line, transforming concepts into finalized products. This role will concentrate on designing woven and knit tops and bottoms with intricate construction details.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Support the Creative Director / CEO in the conceptualization and design of the collection
- Collaborate with cross functional teams on merchandising plan and timeline, providing updates as the styles develop to ensure the collection aligns with the plan and stays on schedule
- Regularly explore and analyze the marketplace, including competitors, to gather inspiration and identify opportunities in product design, fabrics, colors, and trims
- Develop Illustrator sketches and handoff sheets for the Technical Designers
- Create colored CAD sketches for use in presentations and line sheets
- Develop lap dips, print artwork, and trims and be able to effectively communicate feedback to overseas vendors
- Conduct research to identify suitable prints for the line, adjusts colors, and submits artwork for development
- Collaborate with overseas vendors to develop fabrics and trims
- Partner with tech design to ensure products align with design specifications. Participate in fittings, document design notes, and distribute updates post-fitting
- Update and refine sketches based on feedback from design reviews
- Ensure product is developed and designed to meet company margin requirements
- Teams with Product Managers on product development, pricing strategies, and timelines.
- Adhere to project calendar and proactively communicate any potential challenges affecting target dates
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR THE ROLE :
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field3+ years of experience in designing for Women’s apparel preferredStrong time-management skills and ability to organize and coordinate multiple concurrent projectsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with Illustrator and PhotoshopStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to solve matters quicklyUnderstanding and experience with Product Development of garments from sketch to final approvalAbility to execute designs provided by Creative Director / CEOFlexible team player, willing to adapt to changes per company needsHigh level of accuracy and attention to detailKEY COMPETENCIES :
