Assistant General Manager – Engineering (Director-Level)

Location : Northbrook, IL – Onsite

Garrett Technologies, Inc. is seeking an accomplished engineering leader to direct the full life-cycle design and development of diverse products for the medical device and commercial / industrial markets.

The Assistant General Manager – Engineering (Director-level) will lead multidisciplinary teams of project managers, engineers, and technicians through multiple concurrent product development programs. This role requires a balance of technical depth, organizational leadership, and client communication , ensuring all projects meet schedule, budget, and quality objectives in compliance with ISO 13485.

You will provide both strategic and technical leadership across embedded software, electrical, and mechanical design; requirements definition; architecture; integration; and verification / validation testing.

This is a full-time, on-site position at our Northbrook, Illinois facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a 20–30 person engineering organization across multiple disciplines and projects.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee concurrent design and development activities for regulated and non-regulated products.
  • Provide technical direction on embedded software, electronics, and mechanical systems through all development phases.
  • Ensure design control and documentation are maintained per ISO 13485 and IEC 60601-1 requirements.
  • Support preparation and submission of FDA 510(k) / PMA and EU MDR documentation.
  • Implement and refine engineering processes and tools to improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Interface directly with clients and executive management to report project status and technical progress.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Engineering (EE, ME, or related discipline).
  • 12+ years of full life-cycle product development experience, including significant work in medical devices.
  • Proven ability to plan, lead, and deliver multiple concurrent projects on time and within scope.
  • Deep understanding of ISO 13485 and IEC 60601-1 standards and associated collateral / particular standards.
  • Experience leading embedded software , PCBA , and mechanical assembly development through transfer to production.
  • Demonstrated success guiding products through FDA and EU regulatory submissions .
  • Proficiency with project and product lifecycle management tools (e.g., Atlassian Confluence / JIRA , JAMA , MS Project ).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong cross-functional leadership.
  • PMP certification preferred.
