Job Overview
The Orthopedic Technician- Entry assists professional staff (RNs, Physicians, NPs, PAs) in managing the healthcare and support needs of orthopedic patients and families in a clinic / hospital setting. Performs delegated activities including rooming, application and removal of patient splints, casts, braces, and other orthotic devices. The Orthopedic Technician will receive mentoring and training to be able to obtain proficiency, competency, and knowledge in the specialized field of pediatric orthopedics.

Shift Details : Monday - Friday from 8am - 4 : 30pm. No holiday or weekend commitment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
1. Completes an eight-week training program to learn how to manage basic and routine care of pediatric orthopedic patients, which include : placing upper extremity casts, short arm, long arm, thumb spica, demonstrate basic lower extremity casting, including short leg casts (both non-weightbearing and weightbearing) as well as a long leg cast (both non-weightbearing and weightbearing).
2. Identifies patient / family learning needs, readiness to learn and utilizes appropriate teaching strategies while providing interventions outlined in hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
3. Demonstrates basic casting skills following the departmental protocols learned in the training program.
4. Demonstrates safe application and removal of orthopedic durable medical equipment. Able to verbalize the names of various braces and the how they are applied and the uses for each. Upon skill validation, will be able to perform tasks alone.
5. Demonstrates safe and effective technique for removal of basic fiberglass casts.
6. Follows guidelines for specific responsibilities for care delivery, organizational skills, to include prioritization and time management of clinic flow.
7. Tracks and documents ongoing training and self-study for quality improvement and growth.
8. Maintains clean and safe practices, procedures, equipment, and workspaces to contribute to a safe and healthy patient care environment.
9. Performs routine care for orthopedic patients as needed at one of the multi-provider sites and assists with scheduling conflicts, changes, cancellations, and workflow issues.
10. Understands the roles within the multidisciplinary team providing family centered patient care while maintaining objective and professional boundaries.
11. Follows guidelines and documents the process to provide developmentally appropriate care to infants and children with complex health care needs and the plans of care in implementing patient / family care.
12. Attends departmental meetings and can speak to quality improvement initiatives, patient education needs, and efficiency in clinics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : High School Diploma or equivalent
Certification(s) : BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute accepted) with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range : $20.33 to $30.50
