Job Title : Human Resources Administrator

Industry : Government Contracting / Defense Training

Location : Reston, VA

Assignment Type : 6-month contract-to-hire

Pay : $20–$24 / hour depending on experience (equivalent to $65K–$67K if converted to permanent)

Work Schedule : Monday–Friday, 9 : 00 AM–5 : 00 PM

Benefits : This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Job Description :

The Human Resources Administrator will support the HR function within a defense and weapons training organization, ensuring smooth operations and compliance while serving as a key administrative resource. This role plays an essential part in supporting employees who work on mission-critical training programs.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Maintain and update employee records in HR systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with government contracting standards.
  • Support recruitment efforts for roles related to defense training and operations, including applicant tracking, interview coordination, and candidate onboarding.
  • Prepare and manage onboarding and compliance documentation (offer letters, I-9, E-Verify, tax forms, and security-related requirements).
  • Coordinate and assist with new hire orientation, ensuring personnel are prepared for a military-focused, high-performance environment.
  • Assist with payroll processing, including timekeeping validation, PTO, and leave records.
  • Maintain personnel files to government contractor audit standards and support HR compliance efforts.
  • Provide recurring HR metrics and reporting such as headcount, turnover, and staffing levels.
  • Assist with HR initiatives that support a workforce focused on weapons training, simulation, and defense readiness.

Hard Skills Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Knowledge of federal / state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, I-9 / E-Verify, HIPAA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS experience (Paylocity, BambooHR, or similar systems).
  • Soft Skills Qualifications (Highly Important for Culture Fit!) :

  • Must be comfortable in a space with very realistic-looking weaponry and military supplies.
  • Ability to adapt to a defense-focused culture where military backgrounds, weapons training, and mission-driven operations are central.
  • Confident and resilient personality; comfortable working with direct and highly disciplined leadership styles.
  • Additional Details :

  • Onsite role in Reston, VA.
  • 40 hours per week; overtime eligible.
  • Background check required (criminal, social security, employment verification).
  • Potential to convert to permanent employment after contract period.
