Job Title : Volunteer Training Specialist
FLSA Status : Part-time, non-exempt
Department : Membership
Reports To : Membership Volunteer Strategy Sr. Manager
Location : Austin, Texas
Job Purpose : The Volunteer Training Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of adult learning opportunities, training curriculum, and related resources to meet the volunteers at all levels of the organization. This position will also support council volunteer facilitators.
Essential Functions
Volunteer Training
- Provides a progressive in-person outdoor training experience for Girl Scouts of Central Texas volunteers.
- Updates forms, processes, and administrative procedures of the volunteer outdoor training program.
- Manages the documentation of training completions within designated council systems.
- Assists with updates for volunteer manuals, guides, position descriptions, and webpages.
- Maintains outdoor training equipment necessary to implement trainings by staff and volunteer facilitators.
Volunteer Facilitators
Oversees scheduling and coordination of volunteer facilitator led outdoor trainings.Provides support, communication, and direction to volunteer facilitators.Provides training for members desiring to become a volunteer facilitator of outdoor trainings.Assists with updates for facilitator manuals, guides, position descriptions, and forms.Relationship Building and Collaboration
Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including staff, donors, members, adult volunteers, as well as corporate and community partners.Fosters positive collaboration with other departments / teams to best support mission goals and objectives.Effectively and intentionally communicates ideas and information to internal and external customers in a variety of outlets and formats, including emails, texts, website, social media, reports, presentations, training opportunities, and meetings.Required Qualifications
Strong interpersonal skills, including a natural curiosity and openness about other perspectives and an ability to be diplomatic and professional when interacting with a wide variety of people and sensitive situations.Ability to work effectively cross-departmentally, cultivating a culture of collaboration, and demonstrating respect for cross-departmental processes, staffing, and expertise.Effectively interact, work, and collaborate with people of various cultural backgrounds and promote an environment of inclusivity.Ability to positively influence others and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.Ability to critically assess current processes and suggest improvements.Strong written and oral communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook or similar productivity software.Ability to make a commitment to the philosophy of Girl Scouting, both nationally and locally.Capable of maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.Yearly membership in GSUSA is required.Maintains a valid TX driver's license, an acceptable driving record, acceptable vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation to travel within Girls Scouts of Central Texas service area.Satisfactory results from a criminal background check.Education
Bachelor's degree in a field related to the job or an acceptable combination of education and experience to meet job qualifications.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CRM software tools (e.g., Salesforce), data warehouse tools (e.g., Looker), and task management software (e.g., Asana).Non-profit experience.Bilingual in English / Spanish.Physical Requirements
Frequent and regular sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting upper body.Regular travel throughout GSCTX's assigned geographical area, including Waco, San Angelo, Killeen, Bryan / College Station, and Brownwood. Infrequent travel opportunities outside the Girl Scouts of Central Texas region.Frequent use of computers and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and printers.Periodic filing will require the ability to reach, push, pull, bend, stoop or stand as necessary. Will occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.Normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, finger dexterity and repetitive hand motions for manual manipulation of a keyboard or mouse.Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas and can understand, remember, and communicate routine information.Ability to compose material such as operating procedures, organization-wide communications, detailed reports, and slides to aid in presentations.Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the key responsibilities of this position.Environmental Demands
