Position Summary
We’re seeking a highly skilled and safety-driven Fleet & Safety Compliance Manager to lead our transportation compliance and safety initiatives. This pivotal role ensures our fleet operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with DOT regulations, while also championing a proactive safety culture across all departments and locations.
Key Responsibilities
DOT & Fleet Compliance
- Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on DOT regulations and transportation laws.
- Act as the Designated Employer Representative (DER) for DOT drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Conduct pre-employment screenings including road tests, FMCSA Clearinghouse queries, and MVR reviews.
- Maintain driver qualification files and ensure timely updates to licenses and certifications.
- Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) via ELD systems and address violations.
- Lead internal DOT audits and prepare for external inspections.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and update policies accordingly.
- Collaborate with HR and Operations on driver recruitment and performance management.
Fleet Operations Management
Oversee the full lifecycle of fleet assets : acquisition, leasing, registration, maintenance, and disposal.Manage vendor relationships for fuel, maintenance, leasing, and telematics.Administer fleet technology systems including ELDs, dash cams, and GPS.Develop preventive maintenance schedules and fleet safety protocols.Serve as the primary contact for vehicle incidents and insurance claims.Track and analyze fleet performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for all fleet-related activities.Coordinate with regional managers to maintain consistent fleet standards.Organizational Safety Management
Develop and implement company-wide safety policies, procedures, and training programs.Conduct regular safety audits across departments and facilities.Investigate workplace incidents and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.Monitor safety performance indicators and report trends to senior leadership.Ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety regulations.Promote a proactive safety culture through communication and recognition programs.Provide technical safety guidance to department heads and employees.Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans.Requirements : Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or GED with equivalent experience required.Minimum 5 years of commercial driving experience (Class A), including 2 years with tankers.Valid Class A CDL with HAZMAT and tanker endorsements (doubles preferred).Strong knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations.Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not have direct reports but collaborates closely with site leaders and HR.
