Engineering Manager

Key leader in Engineering organization responsible for implementation of the Company's strategic technology roadmap for real time systems used by transmission and distribution system operators in control rooms across the Company's service territory. Individual will lead a team of engineers and technical subject matter experts supporting the design, build, upgrade, and maintenance of systems including SCADA, EMS, DMS, OMS, and DERMS; and providing control room adjacent engineering expertise for system operators in support of providing customers with safe, reliable, and optimized electric delivery service. Individual will continue to evolve the strategic roadmap, evaluating new technology opportunities and providing recommendations to Operations leadership. Role involves extensive collaboration with counterparts in Engineering, System Operations, IT, IT Security, Field Operations, and other internal teams. Individual will represent the Company in regulatory proceedings related to modernization of the electric power system and support regulatory and business strategy related to grid modernization. Responsibilities will also include engagement with external counterparts and stakeholders to ensure the Company is leveraging and contributing to industry best practices.

Essential Functions :

  • Oversee engineering teams responsible for maintaining Transmission SCADA EMS, ensuring operational compliance and support for Eversource transmission system operations, including model accuracy and availability requirements.
  • Direct engineering teams responsible for maintaining distribution SCADA systems, including daily updates of the as-built models, alarm management, and troubleshooting communications pathways from remote substation and distribution line field devices through the front-end processor.
  • Provide engineering leadership for teams building, maintaining, and upgrading the Company's DMS instances, including network load flow model maintenance and optimization through FISR and voltage management applications and weather-based forecasting tools.
  • Oversee engineers designing and implementing model forge processes bringing data from multiple source systems for both long-term planning load flow models and DMS real time models.
  • Lead engineering teams implementing Eversource's DERMS roadmap, increasing capabilities over time in line with policies and programs focused on dispatch of BTM and FTM DER as grid assets.
  • Oversee continuous improvement of OMS functionality, in line with emergency response plans and needs, including delivering improvements in tools for crew management and dispatch, system performance for large event management, and tracking and reporting.
  • Lead teams implementing integration of AMI data into real time systems, including tools to enhance accuracy of power flow.
  • Coordinate directly with IT and IT Security teams on all aspects of real time systems IT / OT project design, build, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure day-to-day engineering support for transmission and distribution system operations, ensuring operators have data and tools to support informed decision making for providing customers with safe, reliable, and optimized power delivery service.
  • Develop and gain senior executive level approval of an enterprise strategic roadmap and investment plan for grid modernization across multiple states and business units.
  • Oversee development and prioritization of Grid Operations Technology capital and operations budgets.
  • Ensure Company's grid modernization strategic priorities are responsive to industry developments and continue to maximize value over time, capturing new opportunities as they emerge.
  • Play a leadership role across the Company to ensure the effective coordination of large modernization projects that cross the information and operational technology divide.
  • Provide input and operational perspective to develop regulatory and legislative advocacy positions on key energy policies and priorities.
  • Communicate the Company's grid modernization initiatives externally as appropriate and participate in industry forums to support the Company's position contributing to industry best practices in grid modernization.
  • Ensure a team culture that balances engineering rigor with the need to support the urgency of real time operations in support of safe, reliable, and optimized service to customers.

Technical Knowledge / Skill / Education / Licenses / Certifications :

  • Deep understanding of power systems engineering concepts and tools.
  • Proven strategic thinking ability.
  • Strong Analytical skills including experience using qualitative tools in strategic development.
  • Demonstrated business development aptitude with strong presentation skills and executive presence.
  • Strong leadership skills to work throughout the organization.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate the execution of large initiatives.
  • Customer driven.
  • Participates in and facilitates team effectiveness.
  • Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business, or related discipline.
  • Master's degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Experience :

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience with successful engineering leadership, including interaction with system operations.
  • Direct experience with electric transmission and distribution energy industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in collaboration on IT / OT projects.
  • Working Conditions :

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA / CT / NH as necessary.
  • Eversource Energy offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this role is $200,000-$215,000, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Please check our career site for an overview of our benefits.

This position is eligible for a potential incentive. The annual salary range for this position is : $193,500.00-$215,000.00 Worker Type : Regular Number of Openings : 1 Emergency Response : Responding to emergency situations to meet customers' needs is part of every employee's role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
