Construction Estimator – Commercial General Contractor

Location : San Diego, CA

Salary : $110,000–$125,000 / year + project completion & performance bonuses

Overview –

I’m working with a well-established Commercial General Contractor based in San Diego that’s seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join their growing team. This role will take ownership of the estimating and preconstruction process—developing accurate budgets, competitive bids, and supporting successful project launches across a range of ground-up and civil commercial projects .

Key Responsibilities –

  • Review drawings, specifications, and scopes to ensure complete and accurate estimates.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Evaluate costs, schedules, and logistics to develop comprehensive project budgets.
  • Coordinate RFIs and clarify design intent with architects and engineers as needed.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients and internal teams throughout the pre-bid and post-bid process.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and project partners.

Required Qualifications –

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience , including 3+ years in ground-up or civil construction .
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Microsoft Project, SAGE 100, BidMail, and BIM software .
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.

    • Preferred Qualifications –

  • Experience estimating retail, fast food, gas stations, or similar commercial projects .
  • Familiarity with non-union private work .
  • Willingness to expand into medical and grocery store projects as opportunities grow.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel for project coordination as needed.
