We are seeking a passionate Technical Manager in Automotive and Industrial to lead our efforts in open source and precision engineering. Canonical provides secure, reliable products for industrial and automotive partners, bridging open-source innovation with industry standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 9001, ISO 21434, UNECE R155 & R156, ISO 26262 ASIL, and ASPICE. Our goal is to enable industries like automotive to leverage our open source solutions from factory to cloud, ensuring security and innovation.

Your responsibilities include growing and leading a team of engineers to adapt our products to automotive and industrial requirements, representing Canonical in relevant communities and standards consortia, and ensuring our Linux distributions and products support industry standards and safety processes. You will work closely with the Vice President of Engineering Excellence and the Automotive Product Manager to define and execute strategic roadmaps.

This is a globally remote role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Refine vision and strategy for automotive at Canonical
  • Define and execute the engineering roadmap for automotive
  • Represent Canonical in automotive communities and with partners
  • Lead Linux distribution and open source strategy in automotive
  • Build and manage a distributed engineering team
  • Develop team skills through coaching and technical leadership
  • Set expectations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Promote modern, agile software development practices
  • Foster a collaborative engineering culture
  • Work remotely with biannual international travel

Qualifications

  • Strong background in software engineering, Linux, and open source
  • Expertise in Linux packages, embedded development, automotive standards (ISO21434, ISO26262, IEC 61508, SOTIF, etc.)
  • Proficiency in C / C++ and Python
  • Experience with automotive systems, functional safety, embedded systems, cloud software
  • Leadership experience in managing and mentoring developers
  • Track record of delivering high-quality software on time
  • Experience with agile development environments
