Job Description
UNC Health Blue Ridge seeks an experienced Family Nurse Practitioner to serve as the Primary Care Provider at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) in Morganton, NC—a residential STEM high school for academically gifted students. This unique role combines pediatric and adolescent medicine, preventive health, and community collaboration in a campus setting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Licensure :
Graduate of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
Licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner in North Carolina
Completion of NC-PAL REACH PPP Training (required by start of employment)
Professional Experience :
5+ years managing acute and chronic care of pediatrics and adolescents; 5+ years of managing acute and chronic care for adults
Prior dedicated role in adolescent medicine and / or within a school setting is preferred
Knowledge / Skills / and Ability Requirements :
Clinical Expertise
Demonstrated clinical competency with a strong pediatric background
Ability to assess and treat a broad range of common health concerns, including but not limited to : Sports injuries and musculoskeletal complaints; Childhood illnesses (e.g., strep, influenza, mono, COVID-19); Asthma, Diabetes, GERD, and Allergic Rhinitis; Mental and Behavioral Health Conditions such as Anxiety, Depression, Social Anxiety Disorder, Adjustment Disorder, and Separation Anxiety; Acute symptoms such as cough, cold, headaches, or allergic reactions
Competence in maintaining a broad differential diagnosis and recognizing when to escalate care or refer
Preventive and Population Health
Experience developing and promoting campus-wide wellness and vaccination initiatives
Competence in managing chronic conditions, including medication administration and compliance monitoring
Documentation and Coordination
Proficiency in timely, detailed, and clinically appropriate documentation using EPIC
Experience tracking health outcomes and maintaining confidential student health records
Collaborative approach to care coordination with school counseling and academic support staff, residential life staff (“house parents”), parents, caregivers, and home-based healthcare providers
Professional and Interpersonal Skills
Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
Excellent written, verbal, and analytical communication skills
Approachable, student-centered, and relational, fostering trust and engagement with adolescents
Self-motivated and proactive in promoting campus health and student well-being

This is a full-time position within UNC Health Blue Ridge, Blue Ridge Medical Group. When school is not in session, the provider will support other BRMG practices, including Urgent Care, Express Care, and Primary Care.
