Role Mission : IDEA Foreign Language (Spanish) teachers instruct students in grades 8-12 in Spanish language and literature. Students typically progress through Spanish I (8th), Spanish II (9th), Spanish III (10th). Most students take AP Spanish Language in 11th grade and AP Spanish Literature in 12th grade. Course preps vary by campus. Most IDEA campuses have 2-3 Foreign Language teachers once fully scaled to Grades 6-12. All IDEA Foreign Language teachers are responsible for ensuring that every student masters the academic and social skills needed to succeed in college, while embodying IDEA’s values daily. Teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and diligently track student data to inform dynamic and effective daily lesson plans. Teachers seek feedback and continuously develop their teaching practice to better serve IDEA students. The program aims to provide rigorous material in high school and opportunities to gain college-credit through dual-enrollment, AP, or IB courses.
What You’ll Do — Responsibilities
- Learn, master, and implement state standards based on IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations.
- Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback.
- Implement formal and informal assessments to track each student’s progress, adjust lesson plans accordingly, and update the gradebook weekly.
- Communicate students’ progress with students and families on a weekly basis.
- Utilize technology effectively as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage tasks.
- Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system aligned to campus initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community.
- Contribute to shaping a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students and families based on trust and respect for the communities they serve.
- Host tutoring sessions as needed to meet student needs.
- Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before / after-school duties, and school-wide functions.
- Engage in summer and year-long district, school, and personal learning and development.
- Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week; additional duties may include after-school tutoring or Saturday school based on need.
Qualifications
High level of content-area proficiency evidenced by teaching certification, field of study, or relevant work experience.Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution required.Experience in a K-12 classroom setting strongly preferred.State certification preferred but not required.Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of the core academic subject and ability to pass an IDEA content assessment.Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to adjust to diverse situations in the school environment.Compensation and Benefits
The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $59,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. Potential to earn up to $10,000 in additional compensation via the Teacher Career Pathway.
