Generator Technician (Level 3 - Experienced)

Job Summary : We are seeking an experienced Generator Technician proficient in both diesel and natural gas generator service and repair for our San Antonio branch. This role requires advanced technical expertise in both the mechanical and electrical aspects of generators. The Generator Technician installs, commissions, repairs, and services generators while ensuring high-quality service and customer satisfaction.

Job Functions

  • Installs, repairs, and services generators.
  • Performs inspections, services, repairs, and load bank testing on equipment.
  • Troubleshot and serviced generator components, including alternators, wiring, switches, and batteries.
  • Applies technical skills in inspection, disassembly, failure analysis, assembly, diagnosis, and overall engine operation.
  • Identifies problems and root causes through logical troubleshooting steps and determines corrective actions.
  • Repairs and troubleshoots diesel and natural gas engines.
  • Performs on-site maintenance and repair for customer equipment.
  • Provides technical support and training to less experienced technicians as needed.
  • Participates in the on-call schedule.

Requirements / Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 7-10 years of hands-on generator and transfer switch experience in a commercial / industrial setting preferred.
  • Proven ability to train and provide technical support to other technicians.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear driving record; valid driver's license required.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to frequent interruptions.
  • Strong teamwork and relationship-building skills.
  • Other Information

  • Reports to the Service Manager or General Manager, depending on location.
  • Standard hours are 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM, Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed.
  • Physical demands are moderate to extreme at times, requiring lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of supplies and materials.
  • Must be able to work in shop environments without central A / C or heating.
  • Some travel required.
  • Pre-employment MVR, drug / alcohol screen, and background screening required.

    Training will be carried out at branch locations as needed and led by the Service Manager or an experienced Generator Technician. Areas of training include :

  • Repairing, servicing, and troubleshooting generators.
  • Installation and start-ups.
  • Conducting field service calls.
  • Proper completion of tickets and relevant paperwork.
  • HR-related processes such as timesheets, leave requests, and expense forms.
  • Software & PPE

  • Training on FSM, QuickBooks, and MS Office programs as required.
  • PPE includes steel-toe boots and safety glasses in designated areas.
