Location / Division Specific Information :
The Vibrational Spectroscopy business segment pioneers brand new scientific instruments, including FTIR, Raman, and NIR spectrometers. These products are used by scientists across various subject areas, serving academia, pharmaceutical, chemical, and food manufacturing industries. Located in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, the site is just a few miles from downtown Madison, one of the top-rated cities in the US to live. The site hosts R&D, manufacturing, and marketing teams encouraging an environment that helps us develop solutions for customers.
How will you make an impact?
As part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will develop our software team to support our digital science vision. Software is at the core of our products, from controlling instruments to refining data into actionable information. You will mentor staff on career development and the Agile process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both software engineering and spectroscopy, with experience in leading software projects and teams. The ideal candidate should possess a combination of technical proficiency and leadership qualities, coupled with a strong grasp of scientific instrumentation.
What will you do?
Lead by example and guide a software development team that focuses on building and implementing software for our spectroscopy products.
Develop software solutions for instrument integration and multi-dimensional chemical analysis techniques.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, encouraging a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Collaborate with multi-functional teams, involving hardware engineers, scientists, and product managers, to define software requirements and specifications.
Stay up to date with the latest advancements in spectroscopy and software development technologies and integrate them into our products.
Ensure that software solutions are robust, scalable, and meet the needs of our customers and collaborators.
Requirements :
BS / MS degree in computer science, engineering, chemistry, or a related technical field.
7+ years of experience in multidisciplinary product and / or software development environment, with 3+ years in a managerial / leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Facilitative leader who can grow and empower team members and Agile teams.
Ability to work within a matrix organization to achieve goals and gain alignment from key partners.
Ability to use data and metrics to identify and solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
Track record of successfully leading and delivering sophisticated development and engineering projects.
Strong software development skills with a focus on scientific instrumentation, knowledge of spectroscopy techniques desired.
Proficient with Microsoft development environments including C# and the .NET Framework; experience with multi-threaded development is desirable.
Passionate contributor committed to exceeding customer requirements and growing their own knowledge base.
