Senior Structural Engineer (Construction Engineering Focus) – Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC
Responsibilities
- Operate in Responsible Charge for the engineering of entire projects of varying degrees of complexity, including directing the efforts of other engineers to perform and deliver specific engineering deliverables; review work performed by other engineers; and seal reports, calculations, and plans.
- Typical Responsibilities and Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned) :
- Perform structural engineering design of temporary structures used in the construction and demolition of structures, including shoring, reshoring, falsework, formwork, crane foundations, crane tie-back connections, and temporary stability bracing.
- Perform structural engineering design for construction procedures used in the construction and demolition of structures, including erection plans, demolition plans, jacking sequences, and post-tensioning sequences.
- Perform structural engineering evaluation of existing and proposed permanent structures for temporary loads and conditions (e.g., pump trucks, cranes, temporary attachments to permanent works, hoisting from permanent works).
- Prepare analysis, calculations, details, plans, and reports as required; seal work per licensing laws and requirements of the project state; determine whether work is for internal use or client submittal.
- Perform quality control reviews of plans, calculations, and other documentation prepared by other engineers internal or external to Brasfield & Gorrie.
- Support preconstruction teams by identifying and evaluating risks, vetting means and methods, brainstorming schemes, and exploring new technologies.
- Develop staff work plans and provide daily supervision of staff; mentor and train staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related field12+ years of engineering and design experienceAbility to obtain and maintain Professional Engineering licensure within 6 months of hireExpertise in means and methods engineering for construction, demolition, and modification of bridge, dam, treatment plant, and similar heavy civil structures; experience with accelerated bridge construction is desiredExperience designing to the requirements of AISC, ACI, AASHTO, and AASHTO Guide Specifications; experience designing bridges and similar structures is desiredSolid engineering judgment and reasoningAbility to advocate professional opinion and elevate unresolved issues to resolve conflictsExcellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively with multiple internal teamsInnovative, entrepreneurial, and strategic attitudeProficient in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and / or other drawing softwareWillingness to travel, as it may be requiredThe above description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job.
