Overview

WHNT-TV and WHNT.com are looking for someone to join our team as a Digital Content Producer in Huntsville, Alabama, to continue our commitment to digital-first local journalism. Applicants must be innovative and creative.

The Rocket City offers a range of interests, including space, entertainment, education, sports or outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Write stories for the web and other digital platforms
  • Ensure accurate and engaging copy
  • Edit and post content in a deadline-driven environment
  • Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) for breaking news and identify exclusive or trending content to grow engagement and local traffic
  • Review copy, correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, follow editorial style guidelines, and optimize on-air assets for digital platforms
  • Maintain strong social media skills for monitoring and posting relevant content on X, Facebook, Instagram and other networks
  • Evaluate website traffic trends to inform daily content needs and longer-term curation to grow the local audience
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity
  • Research and database skills, along with online experience in design and editing, are a plus
  • Help create, upload and schedule content for streaming and run breaking-news livestreams from the newsroom OBS desk

Qualifications

  • Degree in journalism, communications or related field; newsroom experience or daily newspaper / news site experience required; live, working web samples and / or print pages preferred
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP style
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or Canva; basic HTML; other relevant technology and troubleshooting skills a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms
  • Willing and able to work any and all shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities
  • Organized, problem solver who can make quick decisions
  • Able to research, interview and write original news articles
  • Comfort with learning new technology independently and quickly
  • Collaborative team player; contributes to a positive work environment and responds positively to feedback
