Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to operate, prepare, and control seed and production fermenters. The position involves following standard operating procedures, conducting manual manipulation of valves, performing sterilization checks, and entering the fermenter for cleaning and sanitization. The role requires monitoring levels on all fermenters and utilizing basic microbiology techniques, including aseptic technique. You will use lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, pumps, and scales, and be responsible for media preparation and glassware cleaning. Additionally, you will complete downstream processing of bacterial cultures, take a lead role in the production area, communicate with the supervisor about lab progress, and monitor daily activity. Training and mentoring employees on their responsibilities, technical abilities, and development in the lab will also be part of your duties.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, prepare, and control seed and production fermenters.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and conduct manual valve manipulations.
  • Perform sterilization checks and clean and sanitize fermenters.
  • Monitor levels on all fermenters.
  • Utilize basic microbiology techniques, including aseptic technique.
  • Use lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, pumps, and scales.
  • Prepare media and clean glassware.
  • Complete downstream processing of bacterial cultures.
  • Lead production area activities and communicate with the supervisor.
  • Monitor daily departmental activities.
  • Train and mentor employees in responsibilities, technical abilities, and overall development.
  • Clean biological production areas and assist as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Biomedical Science, or Biotechnology.
  • 1-5+ years of experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience working with fermenters, bioreactors, or other biotechnology is highly desired.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Qualifications

  • Experience in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to handle physical requirements such as lifting / pushing / pulling up to 80 lbs and prolonged standing or crouching.
  • Manual dexterity and comfort with hands-on fermentation work.
  • Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $29.00 / hr.
