Job Description
A Recreational Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic recreation programs that promote the emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being of patients in an inpatient behavioral health setting.
- Qualifications include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, or related field, with 2+ years of experience, and certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Additional certifications in modalities like music, art, or adventure therapy are beneficial. Strong knowledge of behavioral health treatment models, including trauma-informed care, is required.
- Responsibilities involve implementing structured programs such as art, music, movement therapy, and mindfulness exercises; conducting individual and group sessions; collaborating with clinical staff; and monitoring patient progress to adjust interventions for optimal outcomes.
