The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer Supervisor to join the Institute. The Mechanical Systems Engineer Supervisor is an integral member of the Plant, Engineering & Maintenance (PE&M) Department. This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment, while also serving as a supervisor of others. This position is responsible for optimizing and improving building mechanical systems, particularly chiller plant operations and airflow management—by leveraging advanced building automation and monitoring systems. This role includes supervisory responsibilities and collaboration on energy-saving and system performance improvement initiatives. In addition, this position serves as a key resource and point of support in the absence of the PE&M Department Head.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of Mechanical Systems Engineers, ensuring readiness, competency, and effective response to all operational needs.
- Serve as on-site system administrator and subject matter expert for Johnson Controls Metasys and SkySpark monitoring systems.
- Collaborate on project development teams focused on energy savings and building mechanical performance improvements.
- Analyze existing mechanical systems using building automation and monitoring tools to provide technical reviews and optimization recommendations.
- Lead the continuous monitoring-based commissioning process using SkySpark; generate monthly prioritized repair lists based on system deficiencies.
- Evaluate chiller plant performance, recommending operational sequence adjustments to enhance energy efficiency and environmental compliance.
- Train Plant Engineering and Maintenance teams in the effective use of building automation / monitoring systems and HVAC operations.
- Perform duties of a General Maintenance Engineer as needed.

Certificate of Qualification as an Operating Engineer.High school diploma or equivalent.10+ years of experience in plant engineering and maintenance.10+ years of experience with building automation systems.Strong expertise in chiller plant operations and air management, particularly in scientific or high-demand facilities.Commissioning experience with HVAC systems.Proficiency in Johnson Controls Metasys; familiarity with SkySpark preferred.Proven ability to lead projects from planning through execution.Experience upgrading and maintaining Johnson Controls software systems.Skilled in troubleshooting complex Metasys system issues, including server-level diagnostics.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems.3+ years of experience in team leadership or supervisory roles.To Apply
