Overview

Uare.ai, founded by Robert LoCascio (former CEO of LivePerson for 28 years), is an AI startup, funded by prominent VCs in Silicon Valley, launched in May 2024 with a mission to empower people to create personal AIs. Uare.ai creates AI-driven personal digital twins, enabling users to preserve, share, and interact with their knowledge and stories in groundbreaking ways. The platform uses the proprietary Human Life Model (HLM) to structure and reason about unstructured conversation and story data, while leveraging 3rd-party LLMs for conversations.

While initially focused on personal legacy and AI immortality, Uare.ai’s platform has broad B2C and B2B applications. The company has gained significant traction, featured in outlets including NBC, NPR, The New York Post, and CNET.

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced, hands-on Backend Engineer to lead as our Head of Engineering at a venture-backed, early-stage startup building cutting-edge, AI-driven products. As one of the first technical hires, you’ll have significant influence over architectural decisions, team culture, and product direction. This role blends deep technical design with cross-functional leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design and development of core backend systems and scalable APIs to support AI-powered, real-time user experiences.
  • Own architecture decisions for backend infrastructure, cloud orchestration, data pipelines, and third-party AI service integration.
  • Work closely with machine learning engineers and frontend engineers to operationalize AI models in production.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for system reliability, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with the founding team on technical strategy, product planning, and hiring.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers as the team scales.

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of experience building cloud-native backend systems for scale.
  • Proven experience leading small teams or acting as a technical decision-maker in early-stage environments.
  • Strong knowledge of modern programming languages (Python, Go, or TypeScript preferred).
  • Experience designing cloud-native systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including serverless, containerized, and microservice-based architectures.
  • Deep understanding of secure data handling, authentication, and system scaling.
  • Knowledge of API security, rate-limiting, and data privacy best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Excited about building 0-to-1 products in a fast-moving environment.

    • Compensation

    The expected base compensation for this position is below. Our total compensation package for full-time employees includes equity and a comprehensive benefits package.

    $200,000 - $350,000 USD
