Responsibilities

  • Provide overall advice, case management, leadership training, and execution of legal activities for Saputo Cheese USA, including employment law matters and regulatory compliance.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for the business; monitor regulatory changes at county, state, and federal levels; revise or develop policies to remain compliant.
  • Counsel stakeholders (HR and business leaders) on legal directions; develop and execute training on legal topics for stakeholders (e.g., employee relations, FMLA, harassment).
  • Train HR team members on legal topics (e.g., investigation techniques, disciplinary documentation, manager / supervisor legal responsibilities, compliance).
  • Review responses for labor-related topics (grievances, arbitration); advise on compensation & benefits topics (paid sick leave, equal pay).
  • Manage interaction with outside counsel for litigated matters; negotiate settlements as needed.
  • Oversee data collection and documentation for litigation, arbitration, and mediation; respond to EEOC complaints, OSHA investigations, and other administrative actions.
  • Liaise with Saputos corporate legal team; negotiate, write, and review agreements and contracts as needed.
  • Research and anticipate unique legal issues that could impact the Company; travel as required (less than 20%).

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of law practice at a national firm and / or in-house employment experience; employment law experience required; labor law experience preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree and Juris Doctorate required; must be admitted to a recognized bar and licensed to practice in one or more of Wisconsin, Texas, or California.
  • Proficiency with labor and employment statutes, decisions, regulations, and related ordinances; strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong negotiating skills with legal and financial / commercial considerations; ability to present and assess range of legal risk and advise on preferred business path.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision; proficiency with software such as LaborSoft, LexisNexis PCLaw, and Microsoft Office.

    • Salary & Benefits

    Salary range : $128,800 - $169,050. Salary offers vary with experience, education, skills, and training.
