The Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position and the E. Fred Koller Chair in Agricultural Management Information Systems.
This position carries responsibilities for both research and teaching in agricultural and food business management. We seek candidates whose research and teaching programs focus on agribusiness and supply chain profitability, resilience, and sustainability, particularly through the application of emerging technologies such as AI-powered management information systems, drones, remote sensing, and robotics.
The University of Minnesota offers multiple programs of excellence across the agricultural sciences, environmental and natural sciences, and public policy. Faculty in the Department of Applied Economics actively collaborate with colleagues across these disciplines. The Department supports M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Economics, as well as undergraduate degrees in Applied Economics and Agricultural and Food Business Management.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally or internationally recognized research program in agricultural and food economics, publish in leading peer-reviewed journals, secure external funding, and advise student research. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in areas such as farm management, managerial economics, agribusiness finance, or commodity marketing, and at least one graduate-level course in microeconomic theory or applied econometrics. The typical teaching load averages three courses (about eight credit hours) per year.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Economics, Applied Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field by August 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program, publish regularly in high-quality journals, teach in both undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise graduate student research, pursue external research funding, and contribute to a collegial and inclusive departmental climate.
